Laser hair removal is a way to permanently reduce unwanted hair. Human hair has three stages of growth and can only be targeted and removed in one of the three stages.
The laser that is used pulses for a fraction of a second; long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle's ability to regrow. The melanin (color) of the hair is what attracts the laser, so the darker the hair the easier to permanently reduce. Hence, the lighter the hair the harder it is to permanently reduce.
We us a state-of-the-art laser hair removal machine that reduces unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliability than others of its kind.
In the state of Michigan, an esthetician, Registered Nurse or a Physician's Assistant can all perform the procedure under the supervision of a licensed physician.
We, at the Greenery, utilize our very educated and knowledgeable Certified PA-C, Roxanne Cornelius under the supervision of Dr. Kurt Helgerson. We currently have two estheticians, who are both certified and well-trained in laser hair removal.
According to the manufacturer, there is no minimum or maximum age. We generally like to treat patients 18 and older. Also, once the hair turns gray, it can not be treated.
The most common side effect includes redness and swelling around the hair follicle. This side effect, in fact, indicates results and that the follicle has responded to the treatment. These effects usually diminish within 24-48 hours. Most people return to normal activity right after treatment.
The LightSheer has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin.
Hair has three different growth phases. Only the hairs in the active growth phase are most affected by the laser. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the time, 3-6 treatments are typically required to achieve a satisfactory level of clearance.
In a 3 year clinical study, approximately 89 percent of clients demonstrated permanent hair loss at 12 months following treatment. Permanent hair reduction does not necessarily imply the elmination of all hairs in a treated area.
New growth may occur in the area as you age. Your body will have new growth as you age and as your hormones change or are altered.
This varies depending on each person. Ninety precent notice a difference with the first treatment. However, remember that is takes a minimum of 5 treatments.
About 3-10 days after treatment, hairs in the treated area will begin to surface. About 20 percent of the hair follicles in the treated area are destroyed during each procedure. These hairs look like they are still growing but are actually falling out. This is not new growth. THe hair follicles that were destroyed by the laser need to purge the hairs that remain under the skin.
The LightSheer diode laser has been extensively tested for hair removal on a variety of skin types with results showing that over 96 percent of patients were extremely or moderately satisfied with their treatments. However, while some individuals have fabulous results, medicine is not an exact science and therefore there can be no guarantees of satisfaction.
